Narrow paths, steep driveways, gates, stairs and tight side access can all affect installation. Let us know your site conditions when you enquire — or send photos if you are unsure. Our crew will advise before confirming the booking.

Ground Surface

Grass allows standard ground pegging for maximum stability. Concrete, pavers, tiles and decking require ballast weights — no drilling needed. Public parks are weights-only as most councils prohibit pegging. Our crew confirms and applies the correct method on arrival.

Side walls are strongly recommended for evening events, Sydney's cooler months from May to August, wind-exposed sites and spring or autumn events where weather can shift quickly. Adding walls is straightforward insurance and costs significantly less than rescheduling.

Booking lead time

For most dates 2–4 weeks is sufficient. October to March — Sydney's peak outdoor event season — books out 6–8 weeks or more in advance. Enquire early to lock in your date, particularly for Saturdays and weddings.

Setup timing

Our crew aims to have everything installed and ready well before your event start time. Early morning delivery is available on request. The exact setup window is confirmed when you book.

Pack-down

We return after your event to dismantle and collect all equipment. Pack-down timing is confirmed at booking — no surprises on the day or after your event.

For 50 seated guests at round tables, a 6m × 9m marquee (54 sqm) is typically the right call. For cocktail style, a 6m × 6m can work — though 6m × 9m gives more comfort and room for a bar, buffet or DJ area. Always size up if your layout includes any of those elements.
Do you set up and pack down the marquee?
Yes — every time, without exception. NY Party Hire delivers, installs, anchors and checks the full setup before your event, then returns after the event to dismantle and collect all equipment. Customer self-setup and self-collection are not available for any marquee hire. All marquees must be installed by our trained crew.
Can marquees be installed on concrete or paved surfaces?
Yes. On concrete and pavers, ballast weights anchor the marquee securely — no drilling required. On grass, ground pegs are used for maximum stability. On decking and tiles, strap anchoring with weights is applied. For public parks, weights-only anchoring is standard as most councils prohibit ground pegging. Both pop-up and structured marquees from NY Party Hire are weatherproof. Side walls provide additional protection against wind and rain. Structured marquees offer greater stability in stronger conditions due to their heavy-duty aluminium frame. For formal events and weddings we recommend adding side walls as a standard precaution regardless of the forecast.
Do I need a council permit for a backyard marquee in Sydney?

What is the difference between a clear and white structured marquee?
